How I make the key shots of a Brand Story Experience

My clients often comment on how I capture the energy and character of them in my images, and today I'd like to talk to you about my approach to doing that.
Depending on what's in the frame and the effect I'm trying to achieve, I'm going to use a different focus technique throughout the session.

PORTRAITS
One of the types of images that I'm going to make in every session is portraits.
When I make portraits of my clients, I'm generally going to focus on the eye closest to me, and that is so there is the greatest connection with the audience.
I'm also going to change the aperture depending on the style of the image, whether it's more of a corporate looking headshot, or whether it's a more emotive portrait.
The technical details will also depend on the environment and the lighting in which that person's in.

ACTION & DETAIL
Another signature shot that I'm making to showcase my client's brand best, are action and detail shots. These are usually focusing on their hands, working on something, or interacting with the space around them.
I'm always looking to make these shots from an interesting angle, shooting them from over the shoulder or below for example.
These are really useful images for everyone to have, and I always try to focus on different points of the frame as well, so that not everything is always in the centre.

WIDE SHOTS
A wide image is a really great addition to your brand gallery, because you can use it on your website or as your LinkedIn banner for example. It's got loads of good uses!
The aim of these photos is to showcase energy and atmosphere and apply more context to your brand.
That could be you in your studio, or on a beach with lots of beautiful landscape around you, it could even be up a tree!
These shots really embed and ground you in a beautiful atmosphere that tells your story effortlessly.

MOTION BLUR
Sometimes the shoot we're working on will be very energetic and full of movement and this is a great time for us to experiment with some motion blur.
This is when I lower the shutter speed and increase the aperture so we can create some beautiful movement images.
This will really make you stand out online.
It's also a great background for text based posts or banner shots for your website as it's such an expressive, characterful type of image for you to have.

This is a really tiny snippet of what goes on in my head during your brand story experience photo shoot.
Each gallery is completely unique, because your story is completely unique, and the images are going to depend on the photo shoot that we design, and that is all part of the fun.
